Program Arte Vivo Colombia. 2024
Plata esterlina 975, filigrana, lámina estampada, cadena tejida en espartillo. Collar de dijes. Colaboración con Orfebrería Leanjo — Leticia Gutiérrez Veleño. Programa Arte Vivo Colombia, 2024
This project emerged from a conversation woven across distance between two places: Montreal and Mompox. Both are islands, surrounded by river waters, lived as home — Montreal by the St. Lawrence River, Mompox by the Magdalena. On one side, Leticia Gutiérrez Veleño (Orfebrería Leanjo) and her family, bearers of a profound legacy of inherited craft and Momposino materiality in goldsmithing; on the other, the island I inhabit. The piece, made in Leticia's workshop, is a charm necklace: one charm abstracts the island of Mompox, with its streets; another is an atarraya fishing net holding a caught fish. The chain is woven in espartillo, a silver braiding technique. The chain is woven in espartillo, a silver braiding technique specific to Momposino craft. The necklace itself, suspended, traces the line of a river as it falls.
